Todd West has been the principal of Deer Isle-Stonington High School since 2007. During that time, the school has seen dramatic increases in its graduation rate, from a state worst 57% in 2009 to over 90% for each of the past three years. Student achievement scores have also steadily risen over the same period of time. The school has recently undertaken an ambitious initiative to personalize learning for all students and ensure that each student graduates prepared for college and modern, fulfilling careers. Through the creation of a Marine Studies Pathway as well as an Arts Pathway, students are blending rigorous academic learning with the types of real life experiences that make learning stick.
